Eric de Fontenay has spent his career understanding and developing solutions for the emerging telecommunications and digital markets. In his role as a consultant for de Fontenay, Savin & Kiss, Mr. de Fontenay has worked on a wide range of issues in the telecommunications sector as the industry made the transition towards competition. His focus on regulatory, technology and strategic analysis has brought him to address challenges that have received focused attention in one area of the world or another. This has included his involvement in negotiating and influencing the direction of interconnection in New Zealand, the provision of video services in the U.S. and Australia, and the use of the holding company structure to address key regulatory issues to name a few. In this capacity, Mr. de Fontenay has worked for major carriers in the industry such as France Telecom, US West, NTT and Telstra as well as government agencies in the US, Europe and Oceania. With the emergence of the Internet, his work increasingly turned to the study of broadband technologies and markets, and their impact on the existing industry and regulatory structures in the industry.
In 1997, Mr. de Fontenay founded Tag It with a bold vision of melding content, analysis & services targeted to the music and entertainment B2B sector. Through his guidance, Tag It has established a commanding position in the online media sector by utilizing emerging technologies to exploit the synergies between content creation, publishing and syndication. Through a focus on developing content management and distribution systems, Tag It has built an infrastructure to support its growing publishing business and deployment of value-added services. The result has been a network of leading online industry entertainment properties including MusicDish Industry e-Journal, Mi2N (Music Industry News Network), 'LA'Ritmo.com and Black Hole, Latin and urban music magazines respectively.
Mr. de Fontenay is a very active participant in leading public forums and conferences such as Streaming Media East, and Consumer Electronic Show and the International Telecommunication Society's Biennial conference for which he was a theme coordinator. He has also played an instrumental role in the New York Music & Internet Expo 2000 as conference co-organizer and speaker/panel coordinator. He has published several papers in leading professional and academic publications and is presently writing "The Digital Economy: How Digital Goods Are Reshaping The Rules Of Commerce," to be published in Communications & Strategies special issue "From the Net to the New Economy: Critical and Prospective Views".
