Tag It launched the MusicDish Industry Survey series to provide
the music industry with a better understanding of the emerging trends
shaping the business both on and off-line. In this potentially
watershed era for the music and entertainment industry, the need for
quality information and analysis is more important than ever. Tag It
is actively pioneering the research and analysis that will literally
shape the industry for the 21st century. Our goal is to design a road
map to success in the New Media era.
Work
Made For Hire Amendment
The survey though sends a clear message to legislators: the impact
of the proposed amendment will not only strip content creators of
their intellectual property rights, but the rewards that come from
their work.
Retail CD
Pricing
A majority of participants not only found today's pricing levels
unreasonable (74%), but excessive as compared to other forms of
entertainment (70%). To reinforce the point, 40% stated that they
would significantly increase their CD purchasing if prices were to
drop to $9.99 while 45% would marginally increase their purchasing.
My.MP3.com
The survey found music industry members (57%) largely in agreement
with the court ruling against MP3.com regarding the legality of the
My.MP3.com service. Perhaps even more alarming to the company's
public image campaign, 55% disagreed with MP3.com's countersuit
against the RIAA that they had engaged in unfair business practices
against them.
